With calmness slowly returning in conflicted Dukana Sub-County in North Horr Constituency, 34 Families have received tents and non-food items including utensils from the Kenya Red Cross Society, on Monday, May 26.
The aid complements the distribution made earlier by national and county governments to affected families. The donations included cooking fat, rice and beans. Red Cross support come after Dukana Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Peter Kimani, called on well-wishers to donate towards the affected areas struck with hunger and ethnic clashes.
Red Cross Disaster Manager confirmed that the team provided foodstuffs to 500 households from the vulnerable families in Dukana location, as residents slowly start rebuilding their lives crashed by the unspontaneous attacks.
Earlier on Monday, women were captured joyfully building their houses that were burnt down last week. This was after a chaotic week, which witnessed massive destruction of property and displacement of people between two warring communities Gabbra and Wayu.
As of Saturday, May 24, affected residents started moving back to their homes from Catholic Mission, where they had been temporarily been hosted, after security patrols yielded return to normalcy in the areas.
Calls for peace have intensified in the county, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen asking leaders to desist from inciting communities ahead of the 2027 general elections, during his Jukwaa La Salama tour of the county
During a security meeting that brought together residents and security agencies, Kimani urged elders to ensure that the guns used to murder the four residents be returned to police stations or chiefs offices in the area, further stating that is not a request but a demand, as they are illegal and could bring further disaster the security officers are trying to avert.
The ongoing clashes has left four people dead, with over 700 residents displaced according to Marsabit County Commissioner James Kamau. In the event , a seven-month pregnant mother was left sustaining gunshot injuries, even as Governor Mahmoud Ali calls on residents to maintain peace.
