Dukana Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Peter Kimani confirmed the recovery of stolen goats, sheep and donkeys by security officers stolen during ethnic clashes that left four people dead.
Confirming the incident on Friday, May 30, Kimani said that the recovery success was aided by the administration, and that 860 goats and sheep, 232 goats and sheep from Dukana and Saru locations respectively.
Additionally, Kimani stated that 13 donkeys that were stolen in the unfortunate event last week were also recovered during the operation. According to Kimani, 98% of the stolen animals have been recovered so far with the help of area chiefs and security officers.
Kimani added that the security officers are continuing with patrols to pursue the remaining animals, to ensure that the owners receive back their livestock.
Kimani further confirmed that two suspects linked in Korka North Horr Constituency, with deaths of the two men that were shot dead last week have been taken into police custody to submit their statements.
As calm slowly return in the area, peace calls have intensified in the area, in action of back and forth, one house was burnt down a few hours after the area had a peace community meeting.
Governor Mahmoud Ali called on residents to maintain and promote peace in the county to attract investors and development in the marginalized county.
Kimani asserted the government’s commitment to ensure that the weapons and guns used to carry out the murder are recovered. The security team has intensified patrol, as residents continue to move back from the camps to their homes, county, and national governments and NGOs like the Kenya Red Cross Society distributed food and non-food stuffs to the displaced.
In Loiyangalani, women started rebuilding their house after they were torched, County Commissioner (CC) James Kamau, said that 766 people were displaced, and more than 30 houses burnt, affecting a total of over 80 families in Dukana Location.
