Head teachers of primary, Junior Secondary Shcools (JSS) and high schools in Marsabit County have been asked to be patient, as the government will release funds to fund education in various schools in the country.
According to Marsabit County Education Quality Assurance Officer Mumasi Wanyama, the funds are expected to be in school accounts by Friday this week.
Speaking at his office, Wanyama has urged head teachers from JSS and high schools not to charge parents any fees that are not included in the Ministry of Education’s plans.
This comes after government failed to include the examination fee in the 2025/2026 financial year, with the Senate sending the PS Julius Bitok to the ministry before appearing to the senate Education Committee chaired by Senator Betty Batuli Montet.
The move was further faulted by Marsabit Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) SG Rosemary Talaso, who said the move could jeopardize the candidate already preparing to seat for end year exams of Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national examinations.
She said that the budget cut will also affect the recruitment of teachers by Teachers Service Commission, subsequently affecting the quality and level of education among children in the country.
Regarding the issue of Grade 9 students choosing among the three pathways, Social Sciences, Sports Science and STEM, in Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12 studies, Wanyama has urged parents to wait until the ministry provides complete arrangements regarding the issue.
The Marsabit County Education Quality Assurance Officer also commended the steps taken by the non-governmental organization Concern World Wide to provide students with digital learning tools, noting that the move will boost the new curriculum for education (CBE), especially the Science and Mathematics (STEM) unit.
On Wednesday, May 21, the ministry of education confirmed through a press statement of a disbursement of KSh 22,028,911,191.40 as capitation for Term 2 for learners in all public basic education institution, from the National Treasury.
