Embakasi Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has expressed his support for tomorrow’s planned peaceful protest across the country by Gen Zs, to mark one year since their colleagues were killed in June 2024 Anti Finance Bill Protests.
Speaking after an interview at Standard Media Group, Owino urged the youthful generation not to be weary in their fight, in honour of their colleagues who were killed by police.
He urged them not to buy the propaganda surrounding the protests, but show up with brevity and honour, for their fallen soldiers, even as a section of government leaders plan to hire goons and infiltrate the protests.
While other leaders have been showing a lukewarm reaction about the protests, Owino boldly stated that he is in full support of the Gen Z led protests.
“What I will tell my Gen Z sisters and brothers is to fight on, soldier on, as it is not over until it is over. Tomorrow as you commemorate your fallen soldiers, be present, be visible. A lot can be said, a lot might be done but I urge you, I’m with you in a scale between zero to ten, I’m with you at 11! Go and make us proud, we are with you, I’m in support,” he remarked.
His sentiments coming after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, question the motive of the protests, as what the Gen Zs are calling for including police brutality is currently being handled by Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA). According to him, the protests are a plan by a section of people to take up the opportunity and cause mayhem and destroy business es and public properties.
He urged the protesters to whoever maintain peace during their protests, sentiments echoes by President William Ruto, who called on the protesters to respect and not provoke the police officers that will be managing the protests.
