Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has dismissed reports that the united opposition has already settled on its preferred presidential candidate to face President William Ruto in 2027 General Elections.
Terming the report as speculations as misguided and a plan to divide the team. Wamalwa said that the united opposition will not prematurely announce, urging their supporters to remain calm.
According to Wamalwa, the team is currently focused on uniting Kenyans, and restoring the country from its current state, which they have accused the Kenya kwanza government of driving the nation to its fall.
“I want to tell Kenyans that our coalition has not sit and agreed on the flag bearer We are not in a hurry. our goal is to unite Kenyans and prepare a team that will ensure Bwana Ruto anakuwa wantam . Our focus is on uniting, to liberate and restore our country it is not on picking a candidate prematurely. Don’t panic. It is a plan by those in government and you know how NIS works wanaanza speculation ili watugawanye,” Wamalwa asserted.
On Monday, Gachagua also stated that the team had not picked a candidate, but have asked each member to go and mobilize votes from their strongholds.
He further confirmed that the team has five presidential candidate including himself as fronted by his party, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP Martha Karua and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, whom have all been fronted by their parties.
He also fronted himself as the best candidate, as Gachagua did, but pledged to support whoever will be decided on to square it out with President Ruto. Wamalwa said that they will unveil the candidate next year and will not be trapped to fall for the plans by the government and unveil a candidate in a hurry.
We have not yet decided who is the flag bearer. We will not be trapped to show them our candidate prematurely, come next year we will unveil our candidate, DAP-K has given me the blessings and I believe I am the best suited candidate ever, but if I will not be accorded the owners, I will support whoever who will be picked stop the speculation about our candidate and line-up, that is our prerogative and we shall unveil it,” he said.
