The Football Association (FA) is set to pay tribute to the late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota during the upcoming FA Community Shield match scheduled for next month between Liverpool and Crystal Palace.
Jota, who tragically passed away in a car accident last month, left an indelible mark on English football with his skill, passion, and dedication to the game. In recognition of his contributions, the FA is planning a special ceremony to honor his memory at the season-opening fixture.
According to sources, the FA is currently in the process of holding consultations with representatives from both Liverpool and Crystal Palace to finalize the details of the tribute. Discussions will involve the timing, format, and participants in the planned ceremony to ensure all parties are respectfully included.
“The FA is committed to ensuring that Diogo Jota is remembered in a fitting and respectful way. We are engaging both clubs to agree on the most appropriate tribute during the Community Shield,” an FA spokesperson said.
Jota was highly regarded not only for his on-field brilliance but also for his professionalism and humility off the pitch. His untimely death at the age of 28 sent shockwaves throughout the football world, with tributes pouring in from clubs, teammates, and fans globally.
The Community Shield, traditionally viewed as the curtain-raiser to the English football season, will now carry added emotional weight as players, officials, and supporters come together to celebrate the life and career of a player gone too soon.
