A day after National Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) John Mbadi presented his maiden budget before the National Assembly, Health CS Aden Duale has commended the new allocation increase towards the Ministry of Health.
In a statement, Duale noted that the Ministry had received an increase of KSh 15 billion, an increase from KSh 123 billion to KSh 138.1 billion in the Financial Year 2025/2026, which he said will boost activities in the Ministry.
“In the FY 2025/26 Budget Statement, the Health Sector has received a significant boost with an allocation of KSh 138.1 billion, an increase of KSh 15 billion from the previous year’s KSh 123 billion,” Duale commended.
According to Duale, the increase indicates Kenya Kwanza government’s commitment in boosting healthcare in the country, highlighting that the boost will facilitate quick implementation of the new government health insurance, Social Health Authority (SHA), and full rollout of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
“This enhanced funding underscores the government’s firm commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and strengthens the rollout of Taifa Care under the newly established Social Health Authority (SHA). With this investment, we are better equipped to expand access, improve service delivery and ensure that every Kenyan can receive quality, affordable healthcare.
The KSh 4.29 trillion budget, saw the education sector receiving the largest share, followed by the Ministry of interior at KSh658.4 billion and KSh 464.9 billion respectively. The Ministries of Agriculture and Sports receiving a cut in the new budget, as compared to the Financial Year 2024/2025. at KSh 47.7 billion and KSh 29.7 billion respectively.
Despite no tax additions as emphasized by Mbadi, opposition Legislator Makali Mulu stated that the bill has not catered for common Mwanachi, but a reflection strategy by Kenya Kwanza to secure a second term. Mulu added that the budget had allocated lion share to government coffers, and little towards what directly affects Kenyans.
Similar sentiments were held by KANU Chairman Gideon Moi, who said that Kenyans expected the Executive to be more sensitive and responsive to the economic challenges facing Kenyans.
Yesterday during an empowerment program in Kitui County, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki called on Kenyans to tighten their belts in the times ahead, a message he said also goes to government officials, as the new Finance Bill 2025 does not include new taxes, caution tax evaders that measures are in place to deal with them.
