Kenya Secondary Schools football giants in the Country St. Anthony’s Boys famously known as Solidarity Boys have decried the interference secondary school games by St. Joseph Boys’ High School Chief principal Cosmas Nabongolo, for destroying football in the county.
In a statement by the school after being defeated 5-0 after a rematch at AIC Chebisaas Boys School in Uasin Gishu County, said the events currently unfolding in the country is heartbreaking and destroying dreams of aspiring young footballers through already pre-determined behind the doors on who should win the match.
The unfair decision, putting to waste the all the efforts made by the players in during training, preparations made by the boys, claiming the current trend is worrying in the future of football games schools in Trans Nzoia.
“This is no longer just a school sports competition. It’s something different, it’s no longer funny it’s far more painful. What happened to St Anthony’s Boys is not sports. It’s not fair play. It’s not a rivalry. It’s a heartbreaking destruction of dreams. The pain these boys are going through is deep. They trained so hard, gave their all on the pitch, only to be brought down not by a better team, but by decisions made behind the scenes,” read the statement.
According to them, the events surrounding the decisions made have recently been filled with corruption, and full of impunity, is shuttering the dreams of many Kenyans leaving them demoralized and in low spirits, in the hands of people trying to sabotage fair competition that has been in place for years.
“The inconsistency in decision making, impunity, corruption, and abuse of power have taken over. These are just students young boys full of hope, but dreams shutters are working hard to achieve their daily missions. Many of them are broken, confused, and depressed. What message are we sending to our children? That even if you work hard, someone can just take it all away from you?” further questioned the statement.
They called for the intervention of the County Director of Education Dr. Pamela Akello, to intervene and restore the fair competition of football games in Trans Nzoia, to have the tribunal explain how they dismissed their previous win 3-2 against the Brown Saints.
“We are asking the County Director of Education please, step in. These boys deserve to hear from you. Look them in the eye and explain why this happened. Explain what rules were followed to deny them their hard-earned victory. They need answers,” read part of the statement.
The Brown Saints decried foul play in the first match, which saw them lose to Solidarity Boys at Ndura Park Complex in Kitale last month. However, a similar standoff was witnessed with their match with Bwake Boys, when the game was put on hold and later resumed.
The Saints sailed through after 1-0 against Bwake Boys, will represent the county in the regional games. Bwake sailed to the finals after defeating Goseta Boys in the semi-final rematch.
