Former Chief Justice David Maraga has outlined conditions before joining the United Opposition comprising of former DP Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former cs Fred Matiang’i, DAP-K Eugene Wamalwa and PLP Martha Karua.
Speaking during an interview on K24 on Monday morning, Maraga said that he will join leaders, only if they respect and align with his conditions, to make their union smooth.
Among the demands by the former CJ include; willing to fight corruption, transform the dilapidated economy, respect human rights and end killing of young people as well as their frustrations, as they are the people he will be engaging them largely in his presidential bid in 2027 General elections.
” Any of the leaders who have come up and are willing to face and deal with corruption squarely, to revamp the economy, to treat the people of Kenya as human beings and as people who have a right to live in Kenya, and to end the killings and the frustration of our young people, those are the people I will embrace and work together with. But if somebody is not keen on that, I will find it difficult to work with them,” Maraga explained.
Maraga faulted President William Ruto for callously dealing with those terrorizing Kenyans, adding that he has violated the Constitution, and is punishable by the Parliament, who understand what needs to be done is an impeachment that is power given to the National Assembly, which he said is unfortunate that it has been captured by the Executive.
“Parliament is captured, the president has captured Parliament, so they cannot get a person to confront him that he is the one terrorizing his people. It has been provided for in the constitution, where the president is violating the Constitution. He is using the just people weaponizing it against his own people,” he said.
Maraga expressing confidence to oust Ruto in 2027, owing to the support system he has, including the Gen Zs who closely associated with him. He had earlier declared himself the Gen Z preferred presidential candidate. Maraga further disclosed that Kenyans had contributed to a website he formed DavidMaraga.com, to finance his campaign.
The former CJ during an interview on Tuesday, said that his campaign will be a Wanjiku funded campaign, asking Kenyans to contribute as low as KSh 50 towards his campaign kitty, as he only had a saving of KSh 2 million set aside for his quest.
“People are tired, people want change. I told you that I don have money and was going to appeal to Kenyans. We have set up a website and within tow days in Kenya we have more than KSh 500,000, and those in Diaspora are putting in dollars. So that tells you that Kenyans want change. I’m appealing to Kenyans to support to remove this government,” Maraga revealed.
He emphasized that Kenyans will support him, as they are yearning for change in the country, that has been denied by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
