Governor Mohamoud Ali has called on the residents of Marsabit County to promote peace in the region, following an ethnic clash over the weekend that left four people dead.
Speaking at the opening of the ongoing Trade Fair at the Marsabit sports field, Mohamoud also stressed the importance of peace and thanked residents for maintaining peace since the 2022 general elections, which he said has helped facilitate trade and development in the area.
However, he expressed his disappointment in the violence in North Horr, after a vengeful mission left people dead and houses torched.
“I want to thank the people of Marsabit for keeping peace since 2022, we have been peaceful. It is sad what happened the other day, four people were killed in a vengeful mission. We should all promote peace to allow development in our county,” Mahmoud said.
However, Governor Ali has expressed his dismay at the violence witnessed in the Dukana area earlier this week, calling on security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.
“I want to express my gratitude to our security officers for their swift response to restore peace in the area, to the people of North Horr we call upon you to promote peace. Our officers should also show the same efforts to arrest the suspects disrupting peace in our county, including those linked to the attacks,” he further remarked.
This comes as calls for investment continue to be issued for investors from near and far to enter Marsabit County to invest.
In Saku Constituency, 311 families were affected by ethic clashes living them in cams as internally displaced persons, that has threatened the peaceful coexistence of the county for the past three years.
During his Jukwaa la Usalama tour in Marsabit County, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen called out leaders inciting Kenyans leading to violence to be cautious to escalate in the high rising political temperatures in the country.
