A group of heavily armed and masked police officers have surrounded Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya’s Milimani home in Kitale on Monday, May 18.
The heavy police presence comes barely a day after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said the Kenya Kwanza regime will arrest a section of vocal opposition leaders, a move that contravenes the 2010 Constitution of Kenya.
He mentioned the likes of Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti and George Natembeya, who have not aligned with the government. He called out the government for using Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), to intimidate opposition leaders.
“If you are a governor and not towing the tune of government, they will send EACC after you. Anti-corruption commission should never be weaponized against people who are exercising their right of freedom and association,” Musyoka remarked.
Natembeya has been adamant critic of President William Ruto’s government, from the lift of National Identification (IDs) vetting in Northern Kenya, to failures of the Social Health Authority (SHA), urging Ruto to reconsider his decisions.
Over the weekend Natembeya said he is not threatened and allow government to tarnish his name with cases and scandals, as the audit reports have not implicated him to any corruption cases either with the courts and asked government officials not to misuse their powers.
“I will not be intimidated with false cases, not even once have I been implicated in any scandal or case that I have stolen public money in any audit query. This country belongs to all of us, do not use your powers to frustrate people,” Natembeya boldly said.
He urged Kenyans to guard the country with justice and respect everyone’s right, before plunging the country into anarchy. He called out government security officials from Nairobi on accepting to be misused to intimidate opposition leaders.
Natembeya has public opposed Ruto’s decision including the recent leasing of Nzoia Sugar Company in Bungoma County for 30 years, where alongside Eugene Wamalwa, Cleophas Malala, Majimbo Kalasinga led farmers in protest opposing the decision as it disadvantages farmers.
His political stand has made him popular among Kenyans, for his bold and fearless criticism of the government in failing to keep its promises to Kenyans already struggling with high taxes and economic hardships.
