Homabay Town MP Peter Kaluma, has distanced youths from Mawego from burning to ashes Mawego Police Station on Thursday, June 3, after youths marched to the police station with the remains of the slain X blogger Albert Ojwang’.
Ojwang’ was first booked at Mawego police Post by DCI officers who arrested him at his home, before he was transferred to Central police Station where he was tortured to death.
Taking on his X page, the recently defender of Kenya Kwanza government, Kaluma said that the goons who burnt down the station were ferried from Nairobi, and not students and youths from the area.
“The goons who have burnt Mawego Police Station were ferried from Nairobi. Our Students from Mawego and our students from across our land didn’t burn the Station. They have lived with the Station all these years, and even after our son Albert Ojwang was killed,” Kaluma wrote.
The youths blocked the body of Ojwang’ from going straight home, after failed attempts by Mzee Meshack Ojwang’, the body was released to the youths who marched with him to the station forcing the police to accept they were involved in the death of the 31-year-old teacher.
After the march demanding for justice, the youths set the station ablaze, and later proceeded to his home in Kokwanyo village in Kabondo Kasipul Constituency for a night vigil.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilen condemned the action by the youths, confirming that the OCS office had also been torched, however no casualties were reported following the incident.
The slain teacher was arrested after DIG Eliud Lagat raised a complain over defamatory remarks made by the deceased on his social media page, prompting his arrest that later resulted to his death. Following pressure from human right groups and members of the public on Lagat to resign, Lagat bowed to pressure and stepped aside, to allow investigation to take place, as he was adversely mentioned in the murder of the blogger.
