Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly declared himself as the most preferred presidential candidate in the opposition to fly the flag in 2027 General Elections.
Gachagua said that he has both political and national support to oust President William Ruto. Speaking with Kenyans living in Boston, where he launched a satellite Democratic Citizen Party (DCP) offices at Well of Worship Hall in Massachusetts.
“I am the frontrunner, and I think I have the best chance t be president,” Gachagua told the crowd.
Declaring himself as the stronger contender in the opposition, he however dismissed the claims that the opposition has already settled on the candidate to square it out with Ruto, despite emerging speculations of power-sharing deal and indoors negotiations.
Gachagua said that the focus still remains Wantam for the united opposition, even as he said that he is ready to sacrifice his ambition and allow someone else preferred to be the teams flagbearer.
He said that the team has been dispatched for all presidential aspirants to go and form their political base and look for votes, as they plan to decide on who lead the team, when they meet next year.
“We have not settled on anybody. We have only agreed on one thing; Wantam. Everyone who wants to be president has been told to go and look for votes, mobilize your supporters. After Christmas next year, we will meet and decide who will be the flagbearer to square it out with William Ruto,” he asserted.
Expressing his confidence in the Mt. Kenya region, Gachagua the one who said that he was the one who mobilized the region’s votes in 2022, which helped Ruto to secure the win, after he delivered nearly half of the region’s votes.
Gachagua further explained that his US tour is aimed at looking for support from the Mt. Kenya Diaspora team, as united opposition prepares for a tough presidential race.
“I mobilized 4 million from the Mountain to make you president. I will mobilize 8 million from this community to send you home!: Gachagua vowed.
Gachagua’s declaration comes as he faces pending legal cases, including impeachment case filed early this year. Once one is impeached according to the laws, he or she is not allowed to vie for presidency for a period of 10 years.
Key opposition leaders also aspirants include Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP Martha Karua, former CS Fred Matiang’i, and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah.
