Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, dismissed claims of being former president William Ruto’s political project, stating that he is formally not a member of any party currently.
Matiang’i added that he is currently doing talks and consultations within the political space, and aligned with any political party.
Speaking on Tuesday, Matiang’i maintained that he is open to collaborations with any like minded party, as he chants way forward for his political path in the quest to clinch the presidency in 2027. He started that it was quiet early to pick a side.
“I am in consultations with a number of political parties and political leaders across the board. I honestly think that if I made a choice now and stick to one political party, I would be disadvantage the others with whom were are having a discussion with,” he stated.
The no-nonsense CS who served during Uhuru’s 10 year administration, stated that working with Uhuru does not make him his puppet, as he worked with other leaders currently serving in Kenya Kwanza administration. He refuted claims that he had sough an endorsement from Uhuru’s Jubilee Party, for his presidential bid.
He blatantly questioned why the politics around his presidential ambition has not been linked to his recently job at World Bank, refuting claims as baseless.
“There are things that people tell you that, when you seat back and analyze, they do not even make sense to the a fool. It is indelible history that I Uhuru appointed me to his cabinet and I served in his Cabinet for 10 years in three portfolios. He appointed close to 30 people to his cabinet. Some have risen to other functions. Am I a project by deed of the fact that I served in Uhuru’s Cabinet? And it is a question of service, why not ask me if I am a project of the World Bank? “He questioned.
Matiang’i revealed that he did not ask Uhuru about his decision to run for presidency, but their conversation has been limited to issues concerning the country. He started that he is still doing wider consultations with Kenyans before deciding on which party to present himself with.
“Many parties are claiming to have me, I heard that also UDA is claiming me. I want to consult widely before making a decision without making anyone feel left out, then we can work together on forming a coalition. We ae better off when we work together,” he explained.
Earlier the Uhuru led Party had mentioned him as their preferred presidential candidate, leading to him being labelled as Uhuru’s project.
