In a turn of events, impeached United Democratic Alliance (UDA), nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has regretted her decision to impeach former UDA Deputy party leader and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during an interview on Thursday, May 22, Orwoba said that she misinterpreted Gachagua’s famous statement ‘Usiguze Mlima‘. She however said, that her vote was misguided for his move to defend his community.
“I regret it, however in my impeachment I was the one questioning about the 11 counts that cannot be substantiated. I Impeached him on the account of Usiguze Mlima, which was misinterpreted by many Kenyans, and I was among those who misinterpreted,” Orwoba remarked.
According to her despite Gachagua starting off on a bad foot on tribal and divisive politics, his current efforts have yielded in uniting the nation that seemed divided.
“The same Rigathi Gachagua, despite starting off at a point of what was perceived as divisive politics, has actually become the person who has united Kenyans! I can see that, even people surrounding him have learnt one or two from that,” she remarked.
However, Orwoba advised the Gachagua Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) calling for ‘Wantam’, that only strategy and consistency is what will remove President William Ruto out of leadership in the 2027 general elections, and not hate and online tantrums.
“Team Wantam, you cannot outplay a chess master with checkers tactics. It is not about hashtags and hate, it is about strategy and consistency. We know it, we did it,” she stated.
The Gachagua led party has received both negative and positive criticism from leaders, however, he has maintained that the new political party will unseat the president in 2027. He also boldly said that the launch will be unmatched in the history of political parties in the country.
Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia slammed the party saying that the party leader Gachagua, as unsure of his political move, and lack of purpose as political leader, crucial principles a party leader should pose. He however said, he could only join the party if Gachagua is not the party leader.
On Saturday, May 24, Gachagua will be hosted by the interim deputy party leader Cleophas Malala in Kakamega, in the bid to popularize DCP in the Western region, ahead of the official launch at Kasarani Stadium on Monday, June 3.
