Police in Isiolo County have arrested two people and recovered an AK47 rifle believed to have been used in the fatal murder of a woman in Kulamawe village on Thursday night.
The two suspects were arrested early Friday morning, following a multi-agency team work between locals, local authorities and leaders in the area, from their hideout.
The team from Kulamawe Police Station comprised of officers from the National police Service (NPS), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Isiolo Unity, National Police Reservists (NPR) and Assistant Chief of Kakili Sub-Location.
According to the police three ammunitions were also recovered, which they believed was used to commit the heinous act. NPS commended the swift collaborative response into the incident, and confirmed that investigations are still ongoing as the suspects remain in their custody.
Insecurity in the county taking a spike in recent days, which prompted Senator Fatuma Dullo to call on the removal of County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding, accusing him of laxity in security matters for eight years in the county.
Her remarks came after a series of attacks against residents in July, including popular Tiktoker and political blogger Ismail Abdikadir, who succumbed to head injuries after a hit and run incident that the family disputed, arguing that their kin was beaten to death by people who had been trailing him.
Additionally, five members from one family including a mother, her three children and a cousin were burnt to death in a night inferno at their home over what was believed to be a love affair wrangle. Following their death irate residents turned to the suspect, lynched her to death and torched her house.
However, in his statement, Governor Abdi Guyo called on leaders from the region to stop politicking with security issues and linking the unfortunate events to his impeachment and advancing their political interests. He termed remarks by Dullo as unfortunate.
