Police in Isiolo County are investigating a murder most foul, after a burnt body of an elderly man was discovered at Prison Farm on Friday afternoon.
The deceased body which was discovered by residents on Friday afternoon, which is suspected to have been burnt Friday morning, was discovered by residents. However, the motive behind the heinous act has not been established, as residents continues to establish the cause and the perpetrators of the act.
The unfortunate event rekindles the events when elderly persons across the country were living in fear, after they were being killed and murdered by relatives and locals, with claims that they are witchcraft, especially in Kilifi County.
According to Global Sisters, these witchcraft accusations have fueled a wave of violence, leaving thousands displaced and over 160 people dead, though leaders and advocates claim the unreported number of deaths far exceeds that figure.
They are often stripped of dignity and security in their final years, forced to flee from their homes and seek refuge in over a dozen makeshift shelters operated by religious groups and humanitarian organizations.
In January, convicts are Amos Nyakundi Ondieki (1st accused), Chrispin Makworo Ogeto (2nd accused), his father Evans Ogeto Okari (11th accused), and Hesborn Ong’ondi Gichana, were found guilty of killing a 115-year old granny in Kisii in broad daylight after being accused of witchcraft.
Following the killings, Kisii County Governor James Ongwae formed a 14-member task force to investigate widespread witchcraft beliefs and their connection to extrajudicial killings.
