High Court on Friday, June 27 granted Isiolo County Speaker Mohamed Roba an anticipatory bail, temporarily blocking his arrest after threatening Governor Abdi Guyo at gunpoint early this week.
The bail protects him from being arrested, as investigations continue on any charges that might be brough against him. The Court directed Roba to pay a cash bail of KSh 100,000. However, the Court directed that after 90 days, if he any case is brough he will be forced to take plea.
The court further directed that he report to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Isiolo Police Station once every two weeks, starting immediately, until such a time that a formal charge, if any, is filed in court within 90 days.
According to court documents, Roba the Speaker, through lawyer Danstan Omari, disclosed that he had received credible information from officers working within the Isiolo county Government and members of the Kenya Police that there were express instructions from Governor Abdi Guyo and his agents to arbitrarily arrest and detain him.
Omari further told the court that his client has been receiving threats from the governor, ever his impeachment motion was tabled in the National Assembly.
“The Applicant herein, being the Speaker of the Isiolo County government, has been subjected to immense threats from and by the Governor of Isiolo County and/or his agents and proxies with regards to the impending impeachment motion scheduled for the 26th of June 2025,” reads court papers.
The reprieve comes as the Senate acknowledged official receiving the impeachment motion of Guyo from the County Assembly of Isiolo.
