Deputy president Kithure Kindiki was in Isiolo County on Wednesday, May 21, on development tour, inspecting development projects initiated by the Kenya Kwanza government.
He Inspected the construction works of KSh 335 million Merti Solar- Diesel Hybridizations Power Plant in Isiolo North Constituency. Merti Solar- Diesel Hybridization Mini Grid in Isiolo is being constructed to provide stable and eco-friendly power supply to Merti town and its environs, is 95% complete.
“Government is running electricity projects worth 1.1 billion Kenya shillings within Isiolo county including 711 million shillings worth of last mile connectivity projects and 122 million shillings under the Kenya Off- grid Solarisation Programme”,DP Kindiki said.
The power plant will lit up townships and settlements like Kipsing, Bassa, Boru, Kinna, Garfassa, Yamicha and Malkadaka.
Besides the mini grid power plants, the government is investing in last mile connectivity project to reticulate electricity to as many homes and public amenities as possible.
According to him, the availability of power will further boost agricultural production in areas like Kinna and Rapsu, where communities are practicing mixed farming and agro-pastoralism.
“I’m happy to commission the completed KSh 27 million Raspu Last Mile Connectivity Project for lighting 108 households, schools and health facilities,” he said.
DP Kindiki was accompanied by Isiolo County Leaders Abdi Guyo (Governor), Mumina Bonaya (Woman Rep), Mohamed Roba (Assembly Speaker) as well as Principal Secretaries Alex Wachira (Energy), Sylvia Museiya (Wildlife) and Mohamed Liban (Petroleum).
