Political supremacy battle in Isiolo county between the governor and senator continues, as Governor Abdi Guyo comes to the defense of Isiolo County Commissioner Goeffrey Omoding, a day after Senator Fatuma Dullo demanded for his removal during Wednesday Senate sitting.
In a statement released by Guyo, faulted the remarks by Dullo against Omoding terming them as baseless, and linking the recent attacks to the impeachment, cautioning against politicizing security matter in the county.
Guyo cited the recent deaths in the county including blogger Ismail Abdikadir, whom he claimed was run over with by a lorry in a hit and run accident, and the tragic death of five members of one family on Tuesday night at Kachewa in Bulla Pesa area.
“Police reports indicate the case stemmed from a domestic dispute, and the late had previously filed a complaint, reporting threats to her life. It is disheartening that such a painful moment is being misused for political gain,” Guyo stated.
According to the embattled governor, accusing and attacking security bosses without evidence threatens the peace of the region, as it weakens the public trust towards them.
“The unfortunate remarks made by Senator Fatuma Dullo on the floor of the Senate. Her attempts to connect these incidents to the recently nullified process is both irresponsible and misleading. Particularly troubling her baseless attack on County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding, a public servant who has conduced his duties with professionalism and integrity. Undermining our security apparatus without evidence weakens public confidence and endangers the very stability we all seek to protect,” Guyo stated.
Guyo further defended his impeachment survival, as the MCAs failed to honour the Court directive, stating that the Senate terminated the impeachment on legal grounds, emphasizing his adherence to the rule of law.
“The courts issued valid orders that were ignored by the County Assembly. The Senate terminated the matter on legal grounds, and the Meru High Court confirmed the process was null and void,” Guyo reiterated.
During the sitting, Dullo alleged that Omoding has failed to tackle raising insecurity in the county in his eight years tenure, calling for his removal, or let the ‘will’ of the people prevail.
The remarks from the two leaders whose relationship is in a limbo, comes days after a series of insecurity events happened in the county, with leaders accusing Guyo of fueling them, allegations which Guyo has refuted and called for unity among leaders and residences of Isiolo.
“In this difficult tie, what Isiolo needs is healing, not division. I urge leaders to speak with responsibility and truth. My focus remains to safeguard our people, upholding justice, preserving peace across our great county,” he further emphasized.
Guyo send his message of condolences to the affected families, describing the unfortunate fire incident linked to a love triangle as shaking.
