Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba has dismissed claims that he has resigned from his duty on personal reasons, stating that he is not planning on resigning.
Roba while addressing journalists following the chaos that erupted on Wednesday, accused Governor Abdi Guyo for forging his resignation letter, affirming that he will serve his term until 2027, when new Speaker is elected.
A signed letter has circulated online about Roba tendering his resignation this week, citing personal reasons leading to the decision.
“Those who forged my letter can continue doing so, write as many letters as they want. I’m going to be the Speaker of Isiolo County Assembly until my term end in 2027. I want to put it out clear,” Roba stated.
According to him, the witnessed chaos was sponsored by Guy and his goons, to attack the Members of County Assembly (MCA), who were conducting their business in the chambers, including discussing the removal of Guyo from office, over abuse of office and misuse of public funds.
“The governor and the police suspended the Constitution, when we were carrying our constitutional duty in the chambers. After ending the business of the day, Guyo and with goons armed with machetes, pangas and stones descended on us, cause one of the issues of the day was the motion on removal of governor from office,” Roba explained.
He faulted the governor for resorting to violence, instead of following the legal processes he has been accorded by the constitution, to defend himself against the allegations. Roba questioned the leadership capacity of the governor, likening him to the goons.
“It is very unfortunate that the governor has resorted to use underhand tactics, when there are legal processes in place he was supposed to follow. We cannot proceed without hearing his defense. He should have appeared before the chambers in a mature way, but what he did was immature, and that we are being led by a goon!” He remarked.
Roba further disclosing that their have been life threats on several MCAs, including him clarifying to the governor that his only duty is to preside over the chambers session, and has no vote, thus he should not be intimidated by him. he further defended that the motion is their constitutional right.
“I have given the governor a notice to vacate the County chambers premises as he is posing danger to the rest of the members,” he stated.
