Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni claims plan to rig 2027 General election by the government through frustrating young people eligible to access National Identification Cards (IDs).
Speaking in Thika, Kioni claimed that young people are being issued with fake documents which cannot even register for mobile banking services like Mpesa, alleging that he has received complains.
“We have received complains from young people that they are being issued with IDs that cannot even register with Mpesa, so we fear that these are fake documents,” Kioni claimed.
However, the SG said that as opposition they will not allow irregularities, which is being planned behind interfering with the forthcoming coming general elections, with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) now in place, they follow up the matter, even if involves taking legal action.
“We have IEBC in place, we as political parties from various areas, we will follow it and make it an issue, even if it means going to court. IDs must be given properly and must be given to all deserving young people,” he remarked
Kioni remarks comes days after President William Ruto allies including Wajir Women Representative Fatuma Abdi publicly said that,” Tunasema tutam, hata asipopita tutamwibia na sio siri”; while Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi said that even if their votes do not fill up, the will make sure it is filled.
The remarks sparking public outrage, with the opposition as well as Kenyans questioning the outcome of the elections and the independence of IEBC.
However, IEBC in a statement dismissed the remarks by leaders, terming them as misguided and dangerous, assuring Kenyans that the commission will do its duties diligently without interference.
The remarks by key Kenya Kwanza allies were termed dangerous, with former Deputy President Rigathi in an interview in May, cautioning IEBC against rigging the elections, as it will see the country witness violence than what was experienced in 2007/2008 Post Election Violence (PEV)/
Speaking after Kioni, ACK Bishop in Thika Julius Wanyoike dismissed the calls for intergenerational dialogue called by Raila Odinga, arguing that the country has enough commissions that needs to be implemented, as the dialogue will not bring in anything new.
“Our country requires the implementation of various commissions. A call for intergenerational dialogue may not lead us to anything. We have sufficient body of evidence of what needs to be done,” he argued.
