Suna East Junet Mohamed has said only Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Raila Odinga is the only person who can declare the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between UDA and ODM dead.
He emphasized that ODM is fully in support of the Broad-Based Government, dismissing remarks by the party’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who said that the 10 point MOU agenda died after the death of X blogger Albert Ojwang’ at Central Police Station.
Sifuna declared the MOU null and void, describing betrayal from Kenya Kwanza, as even after the agreement, Kenyans continue to be killed and increase of extra-judicial killings.
Junet emphasized that they are not going outside the Broad-Based Government, as the opposition is filled with anarchy and chaos, which they are avoiding as it could plunge the country into chaos.
“We are in ODM and in the Broad-Based government. We want to support this government. We signed an MOU, yule mtu anaweza sema hiyo memorundum imekufa ni Baba pekeake, so we must support this government; because outside Broad-Based government is anarchy and chaos; we do not want such in the country,” Junet said.
Directing his remarks to Sifuna, Junet asked him to leave the party if he feels it is under confusion. he said that they fully understand their values as ODM, and will run the party guided by its principles.
Junet added that their stay in Broad-Based government is to ensure that money trickles down from National Government to Kenyans. He urged those with a different agenda to let those in Broad-Bsed government to run things.
“Sisi sio wajinga, we know how are things are going and including our work, those against our course should give us an opportunity to run our things our way. Those with a different agenda should leave us run things our way. We are supporting Broad-Based because we want money to come national government to common people,” he emphasized.
During an interview on Tuesday, Sifuna said that the entry of ODM into a working agreement with UDA has brough a lot of confusion in the party, as well as interrupted the party’s plan. He disclosed that he was against the deal, constantly stating that ODM party is not in government.
Sifuna remarks attracting attention and receiving harsh criticism from both ODM and UDA MPs, who accused him of misleading people, with Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda calling for his resignation and expulsion from the party, for jeopardizing the working unity between the two parties.
