Former interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has slammed Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa, for sending goons to barricade Kakamega- Kisumu Highway to block their procession.
Speaking during their tour of the region, Matiang’i termed Barasa’s act as not only stupid but uncalled for, which not only disrupted their also transport along the busy highway.
“What Governor Barasa just tried to do by sending goons to try bar us from having a meeting here is not only nonsensical, but stupid!” Matiang’i remarked.
In a viral video circulating online, youths are seen tyres on fire along the highway, forcing motorists to look for alternative routes, however, police officers responded early and cleared the road as things returned to normalcy.
Matiang’i further stating that they will not be intimidated to stop meeting people in the across the country, as it is their right that is lawfully enshrined in the constitution, faulting the Kenya Kwanza government for failing to lead the country into prosperity, instead focusing on using goons and intimidation.
He said that the current leadership has failed in delivering, together with his team will oust the government and do what they have failed to do for Kenyans, since taking office three years ago.
“Hii tabia ya kutuzuia tusifanye mikutano ni ujinga mtupu. Kenya is a democratic country, and we have the right to visit any part of the country and talk with Kenyans. Mmeshindwa kuongoza taifa, sasa mmebaki na vitisho. You have failed in your work, we are very ready to take over and lead the nation as required,” he further remarked.
In defending the region, he called out the president for leasing the regions factories, without giving clear information on who is the buyer, arguing that they will not allow government to take away the little dependent resource of the residents. His remarks coming as the government is said to have leased Mumias Sugar, Nzoia Sugar and Sony Sugar.
“Why is Ruto selling all factories without telling us who is buying these factories? We will not allow government to sell the factories that belong to Wananchi. Once we take over government, we will return all the resources stolen,” he added.
The team including DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K Eugene Wamalwa, George Natembeya among other leaders in the opposition, as in the region for a two day tour, which will be concluded in Trans Nzoia County.
