Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa has suspended three staffs from Mumias Level 4 Hospital that were linked to graft and arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), on Thursday.
Barasa further warned the county staffs that any links to corruption will lead to arrest and suspension by the county, as his government will not condone corrupt workers frustrating delivery of service to residents, as well as contractors and suppliers to deliver their goods.
“To all our county staffs, we do not condone corruption, we have staffs in Mumias Level 4 Hospital that were arrested, and I have told EACC that, if there is any staff linked to corruption he or she will be send home. I want to tell those 3 staffs that because of their action, the county is going to suspend you,” Barasa said.
He further confirmed that he had received earlier reports about the three staffs demanding money from the supplier at Mumias Level 4 Hospital, and supports the move by EACC to arrest the three, to sound a warning to other county employees in the departments of procurement and finance.
“We cannot condone staffs that are frustrating contractors, I got the report that they were demanding for money, they should be arrested and arraigned and that is my position, we will not condone staffs tarnishing the name of the county through involvement in corrupt deals within the county offices,” he further cautioned.
On May 22, (EACC) arrested two staffs from Mumias level 4 hospital for allegedly soliciting bribe for X-ray machine to be supplied to the facility lawfully. According to EACC, the two William Mmasava, a Supply Chain Officer, and Mrs. Linet Kavaya a medical engineer, were soliciting and received a bribe of KSh 200,000.
Their suspension comes after the two were escorted to EACC’s Western Regional Office in Bungoma, for processing and later booked at Bungoma Police Station, where they were being held pending further investigations into the matter.
