Kennedy Kalombotole, a suspect in two murder cases at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), will be detained at the Mbagathi Hospital in Nairobi.
Appearing before Kibera Law Court Magistrate Daisy Mutai on Thursday hearing, Mutai noted the suspect cannot continue to be held at the police custody owing to health as revealed by medical reports.
According to the reports Kalimbotole suffers from 2 diabetes, epilepsy, and recurrent seizures linked to drug non-compliance submitted in Court.
“It is clear that the suspect is unwell. What I am gathering is that it is something that requires close monitoring,” Mutai said.
His lawyers had earlier opposed his detention at Kilimani Police Station and asked the Court to admit him at Mama Lucy Hospital or Mbagathi.
The prosecution had however raised concerns for the transfer of the suspect from where the incident first happened to a new location arguing that it could pose a threat to other patients.
During the session, officers from Kilimani Police Station said that they cannot continue to hold Kalombotole due to insufficient resources including hey lack the medication, daily medical support, and specific dietary provisions essential for his condition.
According to the police, the suspect’s condition is serious and requires close supervision from , and further failed to detect his feeding pattern, and the suspect had not eaten.
Kalombotole a long patient at Kenyatta National Hospital is at the centre in the murder of Gilbert Kinyua, 39-years-old and Edward Maingi 54-years old, who denied after their throats were slit inside ward 7B in February and July respectively.
KNH in a statement had confirmed that Kalombotole was homeless, and had managed secure a temporary home for him, before he was re-admitted in the hospital after being taken ill, and under unknown reasons the home declined to take him back.
However, the hospital has maintained that it had discharge the suspect, but forced to retain him after failure to connect his identity.
