Kenyans on social media have expressed their disappointment after a viral video showed Albert Ojwang’s father in what appeared like an advert in front of remains of his son, advertising services offered by Perozie Funeral Services.
In the video, Ojwang’s father, Mzee Meshack Ojwang’ explained how Perozie came to his aid, after the death of his son, and relieved him the burden of buying a shiny, mahogany casket, offering a hearse, as well as flying Ojwang’s body to Kisumu International Airport.
“The accident happened in Nairobi, and I didn’t have anyone to help me, and cater for the bills. Everything here is very expensive, I could not manage by myself. I want to thank them for coming to my aid,” he said.
Taking on social media to the viral video, Kenyans blasted Perozie Funeral Services for taking advantage and using the grieving father at his lowest to use him to advertise their business. Some stating how the power of capitalism taking over humanity.
“They took advantage to advertise their business. What in the world happened has capitalism done to humanity?” Alinur questioned.
“My heart aches watching him endure this visible torment, of a soul caught in currents beyond his strength. Only the willfully blind would deny the old man’s obvious distress doing this video. One need not possess all details to observe the gentleman appears under significant strain,” Dr. Kinyanjui wrote.
“It is unAfrican to parade a dead body in a marketing gig. Mzee Albert is traumatized to the extent of being taken advantage of by unscrupulous business minded madmen. Our prayers for the widow and orphan plus the whole family undergoing this theatrics,” Senator Okong’o Mong’are added.
“He is not psychologically okay. He needs support. He needs to heal,” Camundi commented.
“He needs to see a psychiatrist. This man’s life won’t be the same again after the burial. I pity him, “Joan Gerona added.
“It’s a pity, i feel for him.. i wouldn’t wish this on anybody whatsoever, well except for ruto and his minions,” Kibs Jnr commented.
“That company and whoever it is that came up with this idea is wicked….. How do you ask someone who is mourning to marketing you during such a time? Atakama ni kutafta pesa or even marketing Hii imezidi……,”Patrick Damuia wrote.
Following his death, the government has ‘shown sympathy to the family, donating KSh 2M, as well as building a house to the parents, as Ojwang’s remains set to be buried tomorrow Friday 4.
