Juja MP George Koimburi was on Monday, May 26 morning, found dumped and beaten at a coffee plantation in Kiambu county.
The legislator was reportedly captured by unknown people outside a church where he had attended a service in Mugutha Kiambu county on Sunday, May 25, and it is alleged his wife was injured in the commotion.
According to his family, the MP who was found unconscious is currently under treatment at Plainsview Hospital in Ruiru town. In a video circulating on Monday, the legislator is seen on the ground rolling in pain, with the voice of a witness narrating how he was calling for help.
In another viral video circulating online, Koimburi is seen being taken away in a silver Subaru Forester, with a civilian registration number plate. The Lawmaker’s wife has expressed her frustrations and concerns over previous events, when her husband’s phone and car were taken away, with no information about his whereabouts.
This is the second time the Koimburi has been taken away with unknown people, following his political stand as an ally of DCP party leader and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua. In regards to his capture and disappearance, the Directorate of criminal Investigations (DCI), distancing itself from the incident.
Kenyans expressed their views on the incident, saying that this regime is worst, in line with the torture that Koimburi has underwent.
“If they can abduct and brutally beat a sitting MP, what hope is there for the ordinary Kenyan? This is beyond alarming. It is an attack to all of us,” Moses Mutha expressed his concern on X.
“Who is safe in this country?” Robert Bariu wrote.
Earlier, Naivasha MP Jane Kihara raised concerns that her life was in danger, following her close association with Rigathi Gachagua, ad alleged that if anything was to happen to her, President William Ruto should be held accountable.
She further said that as an MP and Kenyan, she is entitled to security protection from the government, despite her political stand. However, she is not the only Gachagua ally in trouble with Kenya Kwanza government, as his allies in both houses have been stripped off in important house committees they previously held.
