Kitui East legislator Nimrod Mbau has send a fierce warning to leaders from across the country visiting his constituency, and using as a platform to call out and abuse President William Ruto.
Addressing residents on Wednesday, Mbau said that despite the 2010 Constitution of Kenya allowing freedom of speech, it does not amount to insulting and speaking ill about the president.
“We will not allow anyone to abuse the president while in Kitui East. One can make his remarks without using abusive language; those seeking votes to unseat William Ruto should just seek votes and not abuse him. Those coming from different areas coming in Kitui East to bring abuse the president, we shall not allow that,” Mbau stated.
He called on leaders seeking votes in the 2027 general election, they are guaranteed of their freedom, but should seek and sell out their agenda to the people without using derogatory, intimidating and abusive language.
“We are saying that those who come to Kitui East and abuse the president, we can assure you of your freedom of speech, but we cannot guarantee your freedom after the speech. We will not tolerate anyone to come and abuse the president while in Kitui East at any forum,” Mbau added.
According to him, President William Ruto has brought development in the area including the establishment of courts, Huduma Center that has reduced the residents to Kitui town for services, construction of roads, as well as a new district in Kitui East. Mbau saying is enough to warrant his defence against his opponents.
Mbau remarks comes after over 1,000 residents of Mavoko constituency in Athi River town, expressed their opposition following statements made by former deputy president, and Democratic Citizen’s Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, who made remarks that they felt was interfering with the politics of Machakos County.
