The Kenyatta National Hospital murder of a patient in male ward 7B twist has taken a new turn, after detectives discovered the CCTv camera in the ward was not functional, as in the murder of the patient in February.
54-Year-old Edward Ndegwa was found dead in his bed soaked in blood stained sheets on July, Thursday 17 afternoon, with his throat slit, like 39-year-old Gilbert Kinyua in February 6.
The two deaths occurring in the same ward, similar manner, raising questions on the thrilling pattern of murder of patients despite the presence of CCTv cameras in the ward.
Despite CCTv cameras not working, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that they have gathered evidence linking Kennedy Kalombotole, a long patient of the facility as confirmed CEO William Sigilai to the deaths of the two patients.
In a statement by the hospital, Kalombotole was a person of interest in the murder of Gilbert by DCI, which directed the hospital to continue holding him, as investigations continued, but the outcome of the matter was not received by the hospital.
After visiting the scene, blood stained bedsheet were recovered from the suspects room where he was admitted, which prompted his connection to the murder.
The officers further found the knife believed to have ended the life of Maingi on the window of his ward wrapped in gloves and stained with blood next to the security gate. The items were taken forensic analysis, as investigation continue into the suspicious murder.
The two suspicious murder questioning the patient’s safety in the hospital, after pledges and commitment to the members of the public by the hospital to beef up, security of the hospital five months ago after the death of Kinyua, which still remains unresolved.
The suspect lawyer Philip Maiyo faulting the arrest and linking of his suspect in the murder, arguing that his client is being used as the scapegoat, as he suffers a number of condition including mental instability, diabetes and he is also homeless.
Sigilai in his statement said that the home that the hospital had secured for the suspect declined to take him back over unknown circumstances, forcing the hospital continue holding him.
