Six murder suspects linked with the death of a businessman in Loiyangalani town two weeks ago to remain in custody for 14 more days, that was confirmed by Loiyangalani sub-county Deputy Police Commander (DPC) Nicholas Mutua.
The request submitted by the investigating officer in the murder case, requested the Marsabit Court under Senior Magistrate Christine Wekesa, for more days to conclude the investigation, which she accepted.
“The court directs that the six suspects be further detained for 14 more days, to allow the prosecution and investigating team conclude and gather evidence for the case,” Wekesa directed.
The six suspects Timothy Ang’ate, Anthony Ekal, Harriet Kendi, Sam Chebe, Kevin Nait and Rodin Jelinga will remain detained until June, 18 when the case will be mentioned again.
The six are allegedly involved in the murder of the businessman after a club fight, where the body of the businessman was discovered early morning outside the club’s premises.
After visiting the crime scene, the deceased was discovered with head injuries, which was believed to have been inflicted by a blunt object. Two of the suspects were arrested at Kara Lagger area of Moite village, while fleeing towards Kalakol in the neigbouring Turkana county.
Mutua had earlier confirmed that the suspects were evacuated from the scene of crime using a bodaboda operator who was also detained for aiding in rescuing suspects from the law. Following the incident, Mutua had said that the security in the area will be beefed, and ensure all entertainment joints in the area close down by 11pm in the night.
According to Mutua, the entertainment joints are forming the new hiding place for criminals planning in the area of their next activity, before executing heinous crime in the area, disrupting the peace of residents.
Calls for security and peace in the region have intensified with security agencies and peace ambassadors also convened a meeting to encourage residents to use mediation and dialogue to solve conflict, and not vengeful methods that have disrupted the peace the county.
