A midmorning shooting incident was witnessed in Loiyangalani Sub-Location in Loiyangalani Sub-county in Marsabit County, has left Loiyangalani Officer Commanding Station (OCS) injured.
Confirming the incident, Loiyangalani Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Stanley Kimanga confirmed that the OCS from Loiyangalani Police Station was caught in the shootout involving Sambur raiders who were being trailed by National Police Reservists (NPS) and security agencies.
The officer’s name yet to be identified was injured on the leg according to Kimanga, and has been airlifted to Nairobi for further treatment. The officer rushed and admitted at the Loiyangalani Health Centre, before being airlifted for specialized treatment.
The shootout, according to the report by Kimanga happened at around 10:15am behind Desert Museum in Loiyangalani, where gunshots were exchanged.
“There has been a shooting incident at 1015hrs behind the Desert Museum Loiyangalani. The Samburu raiders were being followed by security officers and NPR. The OCS Loiyangalani has been shot in the leg. The officer was rushed to Loiyangalani Health Centre before being airlifted to Nairobi for further treatment.
Kimanga further confirmed that the officer is stable condition, and continues to receive treatment from the morning shootout, that he said involved bandits from the neigbouring County of Samburu.
