Suspects linked to the death of a businessman in Loiyangalani arrested by police.
Police have arrested the main suspect in the murder of a 38-year-old man, who was killed on Monday, May 26 night in Loiyangalani sub-county, Marsabit County.
The two suspects, Timothy Nyag’ate, 31, and Anthony Ekal, 20, were arrested on Monday in the Kara Lagger area of Moite village, while fleeing towards Kalakol in the neighboring Turkana county.
According to Loiyangalani Deputy Police Commander (DCC) Nicholas Mutua, the suspects were evacuated from the scene using a bodaboda operator, who has also been detained to aid in the investigations.
“Yesterday we were able to arrest the prime suspects who had fled in Moite Village, and were planning to run to Turkana County, but we managed to track them down. The two suspects are Timothy Nyag’ate, 31, and Anthony Ekal, 20,” Mutua confirmed.
Their arrest comes when the club owner and four others were arrested, following the night fight at a club, which resulted in the death of the businessman. Mutua had earlier confirmed that the deceased businessman was hit by a blunt object, as there were injuries on his head, and stones around the scene.
Mutua assured the residents that security officers will be deployed in the area, to ensure that security is beefed up, and all entertainment joints are closed down by 11pm in the night, as the criminal are finding shelter in them and harming innocent residents.
The two remain in custody awaiting trial of murder, as investigations continue.
The arrests come as the county continues to experience unrest, from unspontaneous attacks and ethnic clashes in the county, allegedly instigated by a section of leaders from the county.
Governor Mahmoud Ali has intensified calls of peace in the region to the residents, as the continued unrest is thwarting development programs in the county, and discouraging investors with intention to invest in the region.
Security agencies and peace ambassadors also convened a meeting to encourage residents to use mediation and dialogue to solve conflict, and not vengeful methods that have disrupted the peace the county.
