The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has dismissed claims that LSK has withdrawn its legal service against blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia’s case.
Speaking on Tuesday during the Explainer on Citizen TV, Odhiambo said that LSK will continue supporting Kinyagia despite his decision to testify personally in Court.
The blogger who stirred debate online after reportedly missing in controversial circumstances on June 22, 2025, with allegations that he was picked by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
After days of missing, Kinyagia resurfaced an showed up at Milimani Law Courts, with the family advocate announcing that he was into hiding and had informed one of his family members of a threat against his life.
Following his mysterious surfacing, DCI raised concerns of raising trends in staged managed, fake abductions and providing false information to police officers.
However, she said that lawyers from LSK are actively involved in the case representing the family. According to her, LSK took the case after several call from the family when Kinyagia went missing.
“We had received a lot of calls seeking LSK’s help and we ensured that the family recorded a statement with the LSK concerning what happened and after that, we filed for a habeas corpus. It’s also after the family affirmed that they had reported to the police and assured that no assistance had been provided, that’s when we could engage in the matter,” she clarified.
Faith added that LSK intentions were pure, from preliminary reports when Kinyagia went missing. She further cleared the air they had not withdrawn, but allowed the blogger to go ahead and give an account of what happened.
She emphasized the Society’s respect upholding the rule of law without favour, and further acknowledging the independence of the police in exercising their role
“We’ve not yet withdrawn but we allowed him the chance since we have advocates on record who are representing his family so that he can proffer his case best as an individual. As officers of the court, the moment we get information and since we uphold the rule of law, if the police are right, we’ll say so,” she pointed out while maintaining LSK’s impartiality and adherence to the rule of law.
After Kinyagia appearance, the Court blocked police officers from arresting him, after he raised concerns over his life being in danger review of the affidavit. However, DCI summoned to record a statement to aid the ongoing investigations, as they had stated that he was a person of interest.
Kinyagia’s hearing was postponed to September 16, 2025, with Justice Chacha Mwita directing him to submit an affidavit, detailed with explanation of his disappearance and events after he resurfaced.
