Kangundo Law Court in Machakos County was forced to adjourn on Tuesday and postpone a kidnapping case after suspects involved declined to attend the Court session citing poor sleeping conditions in the police cells.
The suspects failed to appear in court over what they described as no proper mattresses to sleep on while they were being held at the Kangundo Police Station, and preferred to remain in Machakos Prison.
According to a report by Citizen Digital, the four, Duncan Wambua a taxi driver in Machakos, Dennis Ndolo, Wambua Kinyili and Charles Mutinda, are accused of robbing and kidnapping a doctor, identified as Titus Kilika in June 2024.
During the session, the court declined an application to reduce the first and second accused bond of KSh 1 million.
The third and fourth suspects were granted relief, after the Court reduced their bond from KSh 5 million to KSh 1 million, or an alternative cash bail of KSh 500,000 from each.
Following the drama, the case is expected to be heard on August 26.
On Thursday last week in Nakuru, Collins Kibet Toroitich Moi, grandson of former president Daniel Moi was sentenced to a two-week jail term by Principal Magistrate Kipkirui Kibelion at Nakuru Law Courts, following repeated failures to honour court orders to support his two children.
After being read his sentence, Kibet broke down before the Court as he was being led out, crying that he has no one to help him, as has suffered since the death of his father. I’m sick.
“I’ve tried. I’ve suffered. Since my father died. I don’t live anywhere. I have asked for mercy. No one has mercy these days on an orphan. I’ve asked the president of this country to help me. No one can help me,” Kibert cried out.
