Marsabit County Assembly Budget and Appropriation Committee has disclosed that the budget is in its final stages of the 2025/2026 Financial year, which will be tabled before the County Assembly for discussion in the coming days.
This is according to the Committee’s chairperson and Korr MCA Daud Tomasot, who said that the budget is currently at the revision stages, with an anticipation that it will be discussed and approved before June 30.
“We will be presenting our proposal to the County Assembly next week to discuss and approve it with or without the amendments. But the process is going on well, as we are in the revision stage to finalize the budget,” Tomasot confirmed.
Speaking during an interview, Tomasot stated that the proposed budget is KSh 9.8 billion, but an increase is expected after the National Assembly and the Senate agreed the allocation of KSh 415 billion to County governments, as proposed in the 2025 Finance Bill.
“The proposed budget is KSh 9.8 billion, but we expect an increase after the agreement between the National Assembly and the Senate, which will see our allocation increasing that could rise our budget to KSh 10 billion,” he further stated.
Speaking during an interview, Tomasot further stated that the Health Department has retained its lion share of 30%, like in the previous budget of 2024/2025 budget, due to its large capacity including number of employees, facilities and need to purchase medicines for the facilities, followed by Agriculture, Livestock and Fishery department.
“The department of Health is still leading in allocation with 30% because they have many employees, facilities and the need to to purchase medicines for the facilities. The other Department is Agriculture, Livestock and Fishery,” he further explained.
