The Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku distributed relief food in Moyale and Sololo in Marsabit County.
Ruku affirmed Keya kwanza government commitment to ensuring no Kenyan dies of hunger, as there is enough food in the country.
Speaking while he flagged off the relief food in Moyale Constituency, Ruku said that food distribution initiative is part of a broader government outreach targeting arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), aligned with Executive Order No. 1 of 2025.
“We have enough food for Kenyans, and that’s why I’m in Moyale today, to ensure our people are reached and no one goes hungry. This is a continuous effort by the government to safeguard lives and dignity, especially in drought-affected counties,” Ruku affirmed.
He further stated the government and international stakeholders are working together to come up with innovative interventions to reinforce food security in ASALs. Characterized by long dry season, and being hit by effects of climate change, he reinforced the government’s plans to cushion the residents from drought, food shortage and flash floods.
” The government is investing KSh 596 billion shillings in irrigation projects to expand irrigation farming to at least one million acres in ten years. This will enhance food security and capital gains through agricultural innovations and production,” he said.
He noted that the government has identified 23 counties classified under ASALs, which have been greatly impacted by droughts and remain disadvantaged, and vulnerable identified households will receive food relief and support from the government.
The CS was accompanied by the area MP Prof Guyo Jaldesa, where he commissioned a newly completed administration block at St. Mary’s Mixed Day Secondary School, a project funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) under the leadership of Prof. Jaldessa Guyo.
Ruku said that the government has employed 76,000 teachers and plans to employ 24,000 in the current financial year, to ensure proper and smooth transmission from junior to senior secondary in January 2026
In the meeting held at Baraza Park in Moyale town, Jaldesa announced construction of Huduma Centre in Moyale town, which the CS said will ease residents movement to Marsabit Town for Huduma services, stating that the government plans to bring services close to Mwananchi.
