Marsabit governor Mahmoud Ali has expressed the support of Marsabit people behind President William Ruto, dismissing the Wantam narrative championed by the opposition led by DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during a church fund drive in Marsabit County attended by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Boss, Ali said that the region is fully behind the re-election of the president in 2027, faulting Gachagua for failing to serve his term, and now busy campaigning for Wantam.
He urged the president to focus, as the one term calls are mere politics meant to destruct him on his agenda, as he will defeat them in the upcoming general elections.
“Rais ataingia straight, these are just mere politics which are always there. The one telling us about one-term failed even to serve for half a term, anakuja kusema wantam, sisi tunasema one more term, kumi bila break and that is obvious. Asitishwe tutasimama na yeye,” Ali remarked.
According to Ali, the move by the president to lift the mandatory vetting process for pastoralist communities during the application process of IDs, earned him support from the region, stating that their unity will and his historical move will ensure that he secures his second term.
“The issue of removing the previous mandatory requirement of vetting process on registration of IDs to residents is historical, and from that gesture he won the peoples heart. He should not be scared as the discriminated pastoralist communities have vowed to support him after the lift. Now adding to his basket, kule Nyanza Baba akiingia ndani, and our people successfully secure the IDs, he will get to State House straight!” Ali further remarked.
Acknowledging the county’s divided votes in 2022, Ali said that in 2027 leaders will have to compete for the votes, anticipating the larges number voting for Kenya Kwanza government, following their commitment to bring development in the vast marginalised semi-desert county.
He further commended the president for nominating leaders from the pastoralist community into his cabinet, a sign that he will be working with all communities in the country, as well as bringing development in the county including fully equipping the recently hospital constructed by the county with equipment.
