Leaders from Marsabit County have condemned the ruthless killing of Miraa vendor in Marsabit town, who was stabbed to death by three armed young men on Tuesday.
Leaders led by Marsabit County Assembly Security Committee Chairperson Tura Ruru Elema North Horr MCA, strongly condemned the killing, calling for justice for the family of the deceased, as he urged witnesses to come out and record their statements.
“We must ensure that justice is served to the family of deceased. Do not oppose any due process, as it will affect the course of finding justice. For this heinous act to be fully handled, let all those who witnessed to come forward and record statement with the police,” Ruru said.
Echoing the words of Ruru, Karare MCA Joseph Leruk while addressing irate residents who held demonstrations at Marsabit County Hospital and Marsabit Central Police Station, condmened the unfortunate incident calling on residents to respect the right to life, and uphold the freedom to do business in any part of the county.
“The Constitution of Kenya allows any Kenyan right to life and live in any part of the country, you as residents of Down Kenya are not exempted, you are here legally, and have the right to set up business esany part of Marsabit,” Leruk explained.
Similar sentiments were shared by area MCA Marsabit Central Ward Jack Elisha and nominated MCA Sadia Osman Araru, who challenged the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators on the run are arrested and face criminal charges.
“It is a very sad incident, we want our officers to arrest the ones still at large, and anyone who witnessed the incident to record their statements with the police for easier follow up of the case, do not live in fear. I understand you’re troubled by county revenue officers especially our youths, we are talking note of those officers frustrating businesses in Down Country,” she stated.
Elisha urged residents not to define the incident on tribe lines, after residents claimed that the attack was aimed towards the Meru community, reminding the angry residents that the 14 communities living in the ward have equal rights to do business in the ward.
“Every person has a right to do business, and the right to live in any part of the county. No one should threaten the people of down country. The suspect is in police custody and we want witnesses to come out and record their statements. We will not allow such acts in the county,” Elisha stated.
According to witnesses, the deceased was stabbed by three men who were armed with a knife, approached his premises and demanded free Miraa before stabbing him on the head and running away. The knife stuck on the deceased head, and succumbed while receiving treatment at Marsabit Referral Hospital.
