Father’s Day is a day set aside for honoring one’s father, as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society, according to goggle, Kenyans marked the day with celebrating the milestones they have made because of the father figures in their lives.
Speaking to with ISFA Media, men in Marsabit expressed their disappointment, as they did not feel recognized and appreciated as father figures.
“There are those who have taken up the role as fathers and we appreciate them, ” an elder said.
“Only a few see the importance of men in their lives, some never appreciate our role and those who have an understanding of the crucial role played by fathers are definitely celebrating and recognizing them,” another resident remarked.”
“Unaulizwa what is father’s day unashangaa, honestly the value of a father is greatly undermined in the society,” another resident remarked.
According to a section of them, they feel the society normalized failing to recognized the male child since childhood, as the society has made them believe that they were born with abilities to be strong and not vulnerable.
With the belief, all the support and empowerment goes to the girl child, leaving these young men exposed to inner struggles they cannot air, as they will be considered weak by the society.
“When God created us men, we were given power of dominance and ability, the society has failed to underscore that men can also need help and be vulnerable. From this belief, boychild grows up understanding that he has the ability to solve issues by himself, even when he cannot, thus the focus has been shifted to empower the other gender. Tumetelekezwa ajab!” the elder further explained.
On Sunday 15, social media was flooded with photos of people celebrating their fathers, interestingly, mothers celebrating themselves as fathers, after their spouses left their responsibilities and they had to step in us fathers in their children’s lives.
However, family expects have argued that the role of a father can never be replaced, as one can always different between a child raised with a father and one without a father, calling on women to ensure the children bond with their fathers to find identity and some to look up too.
