History has been made in Marsabit county in the sports arena, after Marsabit Mixed Secondary School rugby boys team qualifies to the Kenya National Secondary Schools games championship to be held in Uasin Gishu County, for the first time.
The team showed its prowess and outstanding determination and talent during the regional championships of the Upper Eastern region, and successfully beating the strong contenders from the region.
Speaking after their historic win, the team’s coach attributed the success to determination and persistent to win the title in the region, which he said his team has broken barriers of the nation of the region sports excellence.
“This is more than just a victory; it’s a statement that Marsabit has what it takes to compete and excel in national-level sports. These young athletes have broken barriers and set a new standard for future generations, “the coach said.
The coach further expressed his pride to the new regional champions resilience and hard work they showcased during the match, which further won them a ticket to the national to represent the Region and the county.
The players, many of whom come from marginalized backgrounds, expressed excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to represent their county. The team captain vowed to give their all at the national level, saying they are not just going to participate, but to compete and win.
This milestone marks a turning point for sports in Marsabit and signals growing investment in youth talent and athletic development in the region.
As the competitions continue, the team is set to meet strong and giants of rugby in the country from Western and Rift Valley region, but for the team, the hard work will not be quenched, as their dream is to represent the country in the East African Championships later in August.
