People living with disabilities (PWDs) in Marsabit County have been called upon to come out and register at the relevant office in Marsabit town.
While addressing the media, the National Council for People with Disabilities (NCPWD) coordinator in Marsabit County, Ahmed Abdi, explained the proper procedures for a person to go through in the registration process.
Abdi said that for one to fully register, they will require to produce a medical assessment report, National Identification card for adults and birth certificate for children, which are submitted through E-Citizen for NCPWD to verify.
“Registration is done everyday, the process of registration requires one to have a medical assessment report, which can be accessed here in our office or downloaded at our website, a clear sized passport photo and national identification card, if one is above 18 years, and birth certificate for children. All these documents are the taken to our county hospital for stamping and later uploaded on our website fir verification and approval,” Abdi explained.
Additionally, Abdi urged stakeholders to use appropriate channels for registration, to avoid frustrations when seeking essential services from the office, saying that there are those who take shortcuts, which cause people living with physical challenges difficulty in accessing services.
“Once a medical report misses an official stamp from the hospital and using of other people’s document, the registration process is immediately rejected. Upon verification and approval from the Headquarters, the client receives a short code message in their phone showing the approval and their PWD number. I will urge us all to stick to the required procedures to avoid making PWDs miss on registration,” he urged.
With no form ones in schools following the change of the education curriculum to Competence Based Education (CBE), Abdi said the rest of the students from form two to four will receive funds allocated for students living with disabilities.
“Due to CBE with no form ones, those who in grade nine that is Junior Secondary School, will receive scholarship and this information will be made public to the people starting September, to apply and get the scholarships. But those still in form two and four currently are receiving the scholarship,” Abdi clarified.
