Politicians in Marsabit have been warned against tribal incitement, after four people died from a result of tribal clashes over the weekend.
According to Marsabit County Commissioner James Kamau, a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from North Horr Constituency, has been linked to the clash. He also implicated a high political profile working in Nairobi to clash.
“There is some politician who has been mentioned one being an MCA from North Horr, we have also received reports of a government officer who works in a particular ministry within Nairobi, who is believed to have been involved with incitement,” Kamau disclosed.
Kamau has urged the political class in the region, to stop fueling incitement on tribal lines ahead of the 2027 General Elections to desist, and instead work with security agents and peace ambassadors to bring calm in the affected areas.
“We are also urging political leaders those who are in leadership and those who are planning to vie for political positions in 2027, to desist from inciting the communities, as this is a very volatile environment at the moment. We urge them to team up with the security agent and peace stakeholders to ensure that peace and calm is restored in the affected areas,” he urged.
Additionally, he confirmed that the security agency in the county has received 26 names of those linked to the clashes. He stated that all those linked to the clashes must write their statement with the county’s office of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
“We have received list of suspects who are believed to have been involved in those acts. We have agreed that everybody who has been mentioned to write a statement with the office of the CISO, as we have a list of 26 suspects from Dukana and North Horr,” Kamau disclosed.
The calls comes days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kichumba Murkomen, currently in security tour across the country called on politicians to desist from incitement as the political temperatures are high in the country, as the 2027 elections approach.
Murkomen further called out former Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, for his remarks on post-election violence, which he linked to incitement and said those leaders fueling incitement will be dealt with according to the law.
