PWDs in Marsabit have been called to register for NCPWD certificate to access services
Persons living with Disabilities (PWDs) in Marsabit County have been called to come out and register for the National Council of Persons Living with Disabilities (NCPWD) certificate to easily acquire services.
According to PWDs chairperson Boru Galgalo, the main challenging facing the marginalized group in the county is lack of proper representation in the government. He urged families with affected loved ones to register for the certificate to access government aid and other services set aside for the PWDs community.
Galgalo also challenged the county government to do awareness among PWDs in the county, to understand the opportunities present for them, and the importance of acquiring the PWD certificate from the council.
He called on the Mahmoud Ali led administration to also offer relief to families with such people, as the burden of caring drains the family financial status leading to extreme poverty levels.
“Those people at home who have not managed to get the certificate, meaning that they are not identified in the county, I urge the office concerned to take action by reaching out and engaging the community so that they can register all the persons in the county. Registration is currently ongoing, we do not want our people to miss on the support meant for them,” Galgalo said.
He further faulted the county government for service discrimination against the PWD community in the appointment in various departments within the county. He acknowledged that the main challenge of the marginalized community is access to technology, with the vast nature of the county, some sections have no access to network and digital assets to access simplified services online.
“We understand that registration has been going on online, but the disability inclusion in Marsabit is not pleasing at all, there is exclusion from, employment opportunities for us, as well as technological activities, where PWDs cannot access the information through government websites, because they lack essential devices to get the information. Most people have no device and cannot afford charges, which has been a major challenge for accessing online services,” Galgalo further decried.
Earlier, the government had stated that it is going to rollout out 33,000 government on e-citizen to be easily accessed by PWDs in the country.
