Persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in the Saku Constituency Marsabit County, had a reason to smile after a businessman and investor who gave the hope of life after donating 23 wheelchairs to aid them in their movement.
Ebisu a business mogul from the county, extended his humanitarian aid to the marginalized group, with the wheelchairs to enable them access services and carry out the day-to-day-activities in the community with ease.
Ebishu acknowledged the challenges PWDs across the country face, a drive that pushed his commitment to donate to families in the area. According to him, the gesture not a sign of pity, but a step to empowering PWDs, to end the dependency culture among them
The donated will help the, m move around, especially those in schools, and business persons to continue with their life by empowering themselves to fend and look for their daily needs.
“Today we celebrate not just the gifts we share, but the strength within our community in Marsabit County. This is not out of pity, but ensure our people are not left behind, it is a step towards empowerment of PWDs in our county,” he explained.
Additionally, Ebishi donated 160 solar panels to the community, who have no access to electricity in the area, to help light their homes and make it easier for students as he is determined to ensure no family lived in darkness.
His donation coming after PWDs in the county were encouraged to register with National Council of Persons Living with Disabilities (NCPWD), to access benefits that come with NCPWD certificate including Inua Jamii funds, tax exemption, and other scholarship for students.
The Chairperson of PWDs in Marsabit Boru Galgalo urged the marginalized group to come out in large numbers to be registered, so as not to miss on the benefits, as well as donation by well-wishers. He also cautioned the residents against forging the certificates, as it discriminates against the deserving to receive assistance.
