Over the weekend, President William Ruto raised controversial remarks that he will not handover power to the opposition, as they have no plan for the country, remarks that did not only spark debate, but also response from Kenyans and leaders.
Residents of Marsabit also had expressed their views, with a section stating that the president’s remarks is a threat to the democracy of the country, as well as jeopardizes his position in the outcome of the 2027 presidential election results.
“What president said ilinitamausha sana, the president let us say was not in his right state of mind, because the opposition have the right and power to take over him. The powers he was given by the people as a custodian, when the day comes he will go and handover to another person,” he said.
Citing the Constitution, the resident reminded the president that he is the custodian and his position is not permanent.
“We gave him powers to rule us, not dictate or overrule us!, our constitution is very open, when your time comes leave and go! That statement is a sense of defeat and disregard to the democracy of the country. He should apologize to Kenyans,” he further added.
However, a section backed up the president, arguing that his remarks are true, as the current opposition in the country have no capacity to lead the nation. Led by Abdiaziz Boru, a youth leader in the county, the residents said that the current opposition lacks a roadmap to solutions of the challenges facing the country.
According to them, their slogan Wantam, does not detail of what they will do for Kenyans, after taking over from President William Ruto.
“I agree with the president’s remarks, as the current opposition have directed their fight towards the president, they have no plan to change Kenya. They should make a plan when it comes for the country, they are very clueless,” Boru remarked.
The residents further called on Ruto to ensure that development projects by Kenya Kwanza is also reflected in rural counties, as they emphasized on need of leaders coming together for development to be witnessed. Additionally, they called on fellow youths to register for IDs, so as to exercise their power and choose the leader of their choice.
“We want to remain in the government, but we want to see development like other regions in Marsabit, so that he can be further assured of our votes. Youths should continue to get the IDs, it is free so that we can retain Ruto in 2027,” he further added.
Responding to the president’s remarks during his rally in Kirinyaga County, Rigathi Gachagua told Ruto that he will not be needed after the country gets a new president, and also acknowledging the president for understanding that he will not secure a second chance in 2027
