An Islamic organisation in France Secours Islamic France (SIF), has come to aid for single mothers in Liasamis and Saku constituencies in Marsabit County, to support them in improving their lives.
SIF, donated 60 goats to the mothers stepping into their families as bread winners and sole providers, to improve their livelihoods by improving their size of livestock to increase production and sustain their lives.
According to Edwin Ltarawan, Program Manager SIF, each benefiting family will receive two female goats and one male goat from them, to breed and further increase their livelihood. The gesture will see 20 families from the two constituencies benefit from the donation.
“As SIF, we want to cahnge the lives of single mothers in Laisamis and Saku, by extending a helping hand and donating 60 goats to 20 families that will each receive three goats, two female goats and one male goat, to bread and increase their livestock size, which help improve their lives,” Ltawaran stated.
Speaking during the launch, Ltawaran added that the donation is aimed at economically improving the lives of the vulnerable families in the county to put food on the table, especially single mothers trying to demystify the cultural beliefs and struggling to make ends meet for their families.
“This initiative is not just a donation, but a move to empower vulnerable families economically, to be able to cater for their daily needs and end the dependency factor among these women,” he further added.
A similar program was carried out in Dukana North Horr Constituency by the National Government with the a similar aim to boost production and increase the size of their livestock. In the exercise overseen by Dukana Deputy County Commissioner Peter Kimani, saw 41 families from four areas benefit from 205 goats donated by the government.
