Marsabit county Women representative Naomi Jillo has assured residents of serving them without discriminating on gender, age and status quo.
Speaking at local radio station, Jillo emphasized that true leadership must reflect inclusivity of youths, persons living disabilities (PWDs) and elderly. She said she endeavors to see a leadership that ensures common mwanachi receives quality services and development without discrimination.
Further according to her, good leadership must ensure inclusivity of every group in the society, and ensure equitable share of resources to benefit and improve livelihoods.
“In my service, I will not only work with women, because we have youths, PWDs and the most vulnerable people, we also have men will be served,” Jillo said.
She further insisted on the importance of supporting and promoting women into leadership and administrative positions, as it steers development in the community. Jillo added that women have the ability to work out on emerging challenges in the society, owing to their motherly nature.
She urged the residents to give opportunity to women, urging that inclusion of women will reflect democracy and collaboration in the society.
“We have six women governors in Kenya and they have shown accountability. In nature women have empathy and they serve everyone without discriminating. We have seen any thing under the leadership of a woman doing well, even the President was able to get more votes from women and he also believes in the leadership of women. I call on the residents of Marsabit to give women mor chances, as the I’m the only one due to this position,” Wako urged.
Jillo has urged women to believe in themselves and boldly go for leadership positions in various sectors, not only political seats. She believes that women have a huge contribution in the development of the nation and society, but still struggling with challenges hindering them to take up leadership duties.
She further challenged women to come out and present themselves for available leadership positions, by showing that they can lead like their male counterparts.
“I plead with women to come out, let us offer ourselves and explain to the society how we shall lead them , give them even MCA seats to see the difference. Once you taste the leadership of a woman, you will never go back, as they will protect our resources, respect those who voted them and give better service. I ask our people to give women leadership opportunities. Let’s show confidence and allow the people to give us a chance to lead,” she pleaded.
The vocal UDA lawmaker and National Assembly Chief Whip called on elders to start believing in the ability of a leadership by women, and change their perspective. She says women in leadership have displayed their ability, confidence in their respective fields.
“Our elders are a major pillar in our society, but I will ask them to avoid being bias, as they are also fathers to our daughters, saying a woman cannot lead is also denying their daughters an opportunity, I urge them to change their perspective and belief and give women an opportunity to lead,” she further pleaded.
