The new opposition led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K Leader Eugene Wamalwa and the new kid in block DCP by Rigathi Gachagua, continue rum and popularize “Wantam” slogan to unseat President William Ruto, residents of Marsabit County expressed mixed reactions on the new political shift in the country.
According to a section of residents, the political class has started early campaigns in the country, with some stating it is a not a new thing in Kenya, as leaders begin campaigns immediately after Campaigns.
“It has been a culture for them to start to early as usual, I can’t say it is too early or late, imekuwa ni kawaida yao kuanza siasa mapema. It has been happening for the past three years,” a resident said.
“Ruto pia ile time ya Uhuru alianza mapema siasa na akakuwa president hadi kina Gachagua wamechukua the same flow kuanza mapema,” another resident added.
“Imeanza mapema sana na elections ni 2027 and we are in 2025, it is not supposed to be that way. But all this was started by president’s fallout with Gachagua,” another resident remarked.
While a section told ISFA Media that if elections were to happen in August, Ruto will lose to the opposition fraction currently led by Kalonzo and Gachagua, a divided section argued that the president would defeat the position as he is a political genius.
“I don’t see them winning, because this was the guy that was there before them, he has mastered the tactics since he was Deputy president, he is a political genius it will be difficult,” said a resident.
“Wantam sioni. Politics has been unpredictable with Ruto, I can’t underestimate his potential, I didn’t expect him to win. I was surprised he won, he changed the deputy and life continued. Huyu mtu I can’t predict him,” another resident commented.
“Sioni wakitoa Ruto kwa kiti juu ako kwa serikali already na anajua cha kufanya, lakini lazima aende nyumbani,” a boda boda rider stated.
In a contrary opinion, some residents said that the current opposition is formed on the basis of tribalism, in reference to their recent slogan “Hi Cousins”, in Machakos County, arguing that other regions in the country will be disadvantaged if the two win elections.
“Ni siasa tu za ukabila, because wakitafuta kura lazima watasema mengi nitafanya tutafnya. It is nothing new, it is just a strategy to collect votes in their favour,” a youth said.
“It is not tribalistic, if you closely watch the pattern Ruto is doing the same thing, just that he is using a different approach and strategy that he is not displaying. The rest are doing what he is doing,” A resident said.
