The Ministry of Education has officially shifted from Competence Based Curriculum (CBC), to Competence Based Education (CBE), terming it as the best in the world.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony in Baringo High School in Eldama Ravin Baringo County, Education Principal Secretary (PS) Julius Bitok, emphasized that the shift into the new education curriculum CBE aims to bring up a more capable and self-driven generation.
Additionally, the PS said that through the new system KEMIS, they will ensure that there is 100% transition of students from Junior schools to Senior School in 2026, by all grade nine students.
“CBE is the best education system in the world, because it gives our youth the potential to showcase their talents. We are going to use our new system called KEMIS to ensure that we have 100% transition from Junior School to Senior School,” Bitok said.
According to Bitok, 1.2million children are are set to transition from junior to senior school. He confirmed that everything is set for the transition, and every student will secure a place in the Senior School.
“We are expecting 1.2 million children to transition from Junior School to Senior School and everything is in place to ensure that all the children have a place in senior school,” he further confirmed.
However, his sentiments come after Marsabit Diocese Bishop Abraham Ali, said that the Ministry of Education is not yet prepared for the role out of Grade 10, as many schools have no resources and that teachers, parents and stakeholders in the education system do not have a clear understanding of the new curriculum CBE.
During his Madaraka Day speech, President William Ruto said that the government will employ 24,000 teachers by January 2026, as 1,000 stakeholders have been convened for a training and guide on the implementation of CBE, to ensure a smooth and effective rollout.
“Ministry of Education has successfully transitioned to a Competency-Based Education(CBE) from CBE. 76,000 new teachers have been employed over a period of two years, and are on course to employ an additional 24,000 by January 2026,” Ruto stated.
Parents have been urged to engage with their children, so that they can fully understand and guide their children in selecting schools that would fit their selected CBE pathways; STEM, Social Arts and Sports Science.
